Specifics for using the Eye-Fi 8GB X2 Pro with the GoPro Hero (or 960):
This 8GB card will give you the following times with the GoPro if you use it just as a regular SD Card:
2 hrs 720p (30fps) and WVGA (60fps)
1 hr 5 min at 1080p (and 720p at 60fps)
1 1/2 hrs at 960p
You can also use this card with your non-GoPro cameras!
But definitely use this as a specialized wireless transfer card with wireless networks and let it shine!
When you first receive your Eye-Fi card, setup the card per the Eye-Fi instructions (using the Eye-Fi card caddy), then on first use in the GoPro camera, format the card (go to settings, 'ALL'). This properly formats the card for the HD Hero. It will erase the computer software on the card (available for free on their website), but will not affect anything else on the Eye-Fi SD Card.
A quirk with GoPro HD Hero is you have to take a picture or quick video in order to initiate the wireless on the card. Probably some power saving feature on the GoPro. You need to do this ever time you power on the camera if you want the wireless to transmit.
Turn off the auto-shutoff feature on the GoPro. You don't want this camera shutting off while it's transmitting files (although it is smart enough to know exactly where it left off - how cool is that!).
Make sure you have the correct date on the camera otherwise there will be issues with the laptop either not transferring the files or putting them in unexpected places.
Keep your files UNDER 2GB** if you want them to transfer wirelessly. Over 2GB and the file will just be saved to the card (possibly taking up valuable space). If you're at a long event, simply stop and start the video occasionally to create smaller files that can then be transferred.
If you're using a network connection with a router, the speed is about 60-80MB per minute and an ad hoc network connection (direct connect to a laptop) is about 90MB per minute. That's pretty darn fast for wireless!
Range with an ad hoc network is about 90 feet. A traditional network with a router can go as far as 200 feet or more depending on the antenna and conditions.
Here's a demo video for the Eye-Fi card with the GoPro HD Hero
To confirm your camera composition, from up to 200 feet away!
For director approval
For time-lapse. You'll never full up a card with the 'endless memory' feature turned on.
For a near-live slideshow. You could have a near-live slide show that would display the picture as soon as it's downloaded. Probably a 15 second delay from the time the picture is taken to displaying it. See the video below on how to show a near-real time slide show. SEE VIDEO BELOW.
At short events under 33 minutes** (2GB file size). If you have a long event, simply stop and start every 33 minutes** or less to start a new file and begin transferring that saved file.
For shooting on a helicopter or boat or vehicle with the laptop there or in a near-by vehicle. Plug in a USB power plug and you could shoot all day! No need to download at end of day.
At weddings, social events
** A 2GB file on the HD Hero (and 960) is about:
1080p = 18 mins. for 2GB file = 112MB per minute
960p = 22 mins. for 2GB file = 91mb per minute
720p 60fps = 17 mins. for 2GB file = 115MB per minute
720P 30fps = 33 mins. for 2GB file = 60MB per minute
480p 60fps = 32 mins. for 2GB file = 62mb per minute

If you formatted your card and need the Eye-Fi center software that was on it from the factory,
you can download it here.
Occasionally, Eye-Fi comes out with firmware updates for the SD Cards. Go here for more info on firmware updates for the Eye-Fi card. Firmware updates are automatically installed
when you put the card in your computer with the card caddy.
